gaze
This is my favourite wabi-sabi photograph from Monday's session at the MAC.
What do you see? A tiny person threatened by a rapaciously toothed monster? Someone falling from the top of a very tall peak? A gentle, straight incline? A fine-art museum-piece?
In reality it was a deliberately out of focus photograph of some minor imperfections and scuffs on the side of a waste-paper bin.

the beauty of the day - No. 1
Dear Sheddists,
it's been just over a year since I retired and a number of people have asked me how it's going.
My consistent reply has been that I haven't had a day when there's been nothing to do, I haven't had a day when I've been bored and I haven't had a day when I failed to see something of beauty that would otherwise have passed me by had I been working.
So this year I'm going to put this to the proof and see how many things I can capture that reflect in some small way the beauty I've seen. Today it's been the wintry afternoon sunshine streaming through the windows at home. I love my home very much - it's been built on love, family and laughter - and to see the light shining through it was so wonderful.
Here are just a few of the things that made me smile today - hope you enjoy them too.
Yours as ever,
