So now work starts in earnest on the new quilt. Various pieces of material are laid out neatly in readiness on the cutting table - big squares, little squares, triangles and rectangles.

The first task is to assemble the smaller squares into blocks.

we dodged the heat

between

trees and weeds

and

spuming fungus

bound aloft in poison ivy

the swamp

breathed dark water

curdled with leaves

while a frog padded

impassively

among the lace-filigree

water-lilies

to find its resting place
