One eye on the world

My sabbatical approaches

Dear Sheddists,

my sabbatical fast approaches.  Ten years service as a Partner in my practice means I'm granted three months day release to do with as I choose!

I must confess just six months ago the prospect was all rather alarming. What should I do, so many choices?  What if I go native and don't want to return?  What if ......... ?

Well with just a month left before I start, the answer to the first question has become much clearer. There's a photography course booked in London, an outdoor concert down at the Eden Centre, a wedding anniversary trip to Paris, a return visit to Latitude and two weeks touring the Scottish Highlands in Veronica the Van.

And between all that, some glorious space just to stop and reflect on life. I want to watch the flowers grow and be beside my loved one.

Please watch out for me soaking in the golden joys of Autumn day life.

yours as ever,

electrofried(mr)

Hidden Joys

One of the joys of using a multiplicity of film cameras is the discovery of forgotten photographs.  Like a walk in an autumnal Norfolk garden ...

The biting of nails

Our penultimate away game, and a nail-biter. We sweep into Norwich riding shotgun on our trusty camper-van before two friendly home supporters shepherd us to the 'park and ride' and get us safe aboard the bus on the way to Carrow Road.

We leave them by the gates and set off in search of food.  The fish and chips are great, the lager prohibitively expensive!  But this is nothing compared to the cacophony that greets us on entering the Away Supporters' End.  A dark concrete pit beneath the ground filled with three thousand swarming Villa fans still buzzing from a six one thrashing of the forlorn Sunderland just a few nights ago.

We fight our way through the throng toward the beckoning daylight of the stairs to the stand. It's a long haul up to our seats but the sun shines and the crowd's in fine voice.  We join in the chants then a mighty roar erupts as the teams emerge.

It's a nervy start but Gabby is in fine form, striking terror deep into the hearts of the Norwich defenders as he streaks toward goal.  Whilst our delight is momentarily chilled by a penalty for the home team, two moments of sublime magic from Mr Abonglahor see the ball nestling twice in the Norwich goal.

Victory is ours, and with it the prospect of Premiership survival comes ever closer.

Home and away

Days and nights of jubilation

We came in hope, my son and I, for days and nights of jubilation.  We moaned and groaned and cheered.  We ate salty chips and lava-molten pies washed down with cokes and lager, sharing laugher and dismay in equal measure.

There were some days .. and there were some nights.  And we lived to see another season.
