it's a blast at the caravan gallery!!!

What a fantastic exhibition by The Caravan Gallery at the former Poundland shop in West Bromwich. It's curated by Jan Williams and Chris Teasdale and is part of the Blast! festival of photography, talks and walks.

I get to meet both Jan and Chris and speak to another leading contributor, Mike Maynard.  And surprise, surprise, I find another member of my photography group is already exhibiting his work on the People's Wall.

It's well worth seeing and I thoroughly recommend a visit before the exhibition closes on 29th June.

shopping, sikhs and street photography

I'm visiting West Bromwich to see the superb Caravan Gallery exhibition, part of the 'Blast!' photography festival.  Walking through the town centre I take the opportunity to explore the market areas. They are bustling, vibrant and full of colour.

I love street photography. It provides so many opportunities to speak to strangers and listen to their stories for an all too brief moment. West Bromwich proves to be particularly friendly.  I'm called across by a lovely group of Sikh gentlemen sitting on two rows of benches in the middle of King's Square. They allow me to take their photographs and their sense of community is just so refreshing.

parr for the course

Martin Parr, the famous British documentary photographer, spoke last night at West Bromwich Town Hall. His was the last of three talks to publicise next year's Blast Festival, a celebration of life in the six towns of Sandwell.

Martin takes us through some of the highlights of his fifty year career, which he describes as getting paid to pursue his hobby!  Do take a look at his web-site if you haven't come across his work before - it's well worth a visit.
