aston villa 2 v 2 QPR

The catering team at Villa Park had planned an audacious kebab'n'chips pitch-side offering come half-time but it all went sadly wrong when the grills were turned on too early and too high. Nonetheless it provided a spectacular opening for the traditional New Year's Day fixture.

We hosted Queen's Park Rangers and sadly the game followed the way of the kebabs. A scorching opener from Tammy Abraham lit up the field, but two goals either side of half-time from Luke Freeman and Eberechi Eze saw us playing catch-up football.

Tammy Abraham spared our blushes with a 75th minute equaliser but the winning goal proved elusive. With Tammy reportedly on his way to Wolves and a defence that brings new meaning to the word, 'sieve' the portents for the new year do not augur well.

protected or imprisoned?

Sometimes I wonder if we are protecting our children or imprisoning them. What do you think?

a walk around a lake

Such strange feelings retracing the steps I took thirty years ago around this little estate-locked lake. Memories of early mornings, wellingtons and walking hand-in-hand with my eldest daughter, then aged five.

Some things have changed, some haven't.
