we came, we saw, we drew 1v1 against brentford ...

We met Ryan on the train to Witton. He was with his parents. It was his first game ever. He saw a draw against Brentford and a lovely goal by Emi Buendia. Hope he enjoyed it!

aston villa 2-2 brentford

Dear Sheddists,

our second home game of the season sees Villa pitted against Brentford, a real 'bogey' team for us. We've failed to beat them in any of our last four outings since demotion to the Championship.  Two losses away from home and two draws at Villa Park do not bode well for tonight.

As it transpires the sequence continues, but it could have been much worse.

Despite a very promising start by the plucky boys in claret and blue we fall behind in the twenty third minute to a strike by Neal Maupay, the Championship's current top scorer.  His goal comes much against the run of play.

Undeterred, Villa carry on their relentless probing of the Brentford back-line and our reward comes just before half-time. A sublime turn and strike by the rejuvenated Jonathan Kodjia sees us draw level.  At last he appears to have put behind him the injury woes that have dogged him for so long.

The second half proves to be more evenly contested as both sides race from end to end in thrilling attack-minded football. Once more Brentford take the lead and it's that man Maupay again.  With just eight minutes of normal time on the clock it looks bleak for the Villa.  And then, miracle of miracles, it happens again! For the second time in successive home games we bag a late goal, Kodjia's header rounding off an excellent performance from Villa's man of the match

All credit to Brentford who look an impressive team. They soaked up the pressure well and looked clinical on the counter-attack. Expect to see them right in the mix come the end of the season.

Up the Villa!

yours as ever,
