aston villa 2 v 1 ipswich

At the moment Villa really are making things difficult for themselves.  A home fixture against bottom of the table Ipswich should have been a 'shoe-in', but it proved to be a much tougher struggle than might have been predicted.

It all started brightly with Tammy Abraham's delightful header from a pin-point Conor Hourihane cross. One nil up after just six minutes.  Other chances went begging, but it was not until the start of the second half that Villa added to their tally.  John McGinn was brought down in the box and Abraham duly despatched the penalty to double the lead.

All seemed plain sailing but then a wonderful shot by Freddie Sears soared into the Villa goal prompting a bout of nerves and late goal-line clearances. Villa emerged with all three points, but it was far from a commanding performance.
