The inspiration of Edna

Edna is a very dear friend from Church.  She's in her 80's and she's an absolute inspiration to me.

Edna's husband died prematurely leaving her with a young daughter and another on the way.  Sadly, her eldest daughter was to commit suicide.  Her younger daughter had a lovely son who died just over a year ago.  He suffered a rare and deadly form of muscular dystrophy.

Does that deter Edna from living life to the full?  No, it does not!

Her heart stopped recently. Three times. Did that deter her from following her favourite football club?  Of course not.  She can't drive right now so I volunteered to take her, and what a joy it was to share a few precious hours together!

Do you have someone in your life who's a real inspiration to you… ?

Journey No. 3 - mandela

the early morning train spills
me out at euston
and
from there
it's but a brief trip by tube to westminster

big ben stands proud
in mist
and on the opposite corner of Parliament Square
a simple statue
lies
wreathed in flowers

he holds
hands
aloft
beckoning us
from death
to believe there can be a different way
