the ice crystals cut my eyes in two

the ice-crystals
cut
my eyes in two

I looked from one
and I saw the surface veins
of the last leaves left

and I looked from the other
and I saw
the coal-black depth
of frozen water

david austin roses

It's a dull and over-cast day at David Austin Roses but none the worse for it. The beautiful colours of Autumn remain vibrant beneath the scudding clouds overhead.

the slow dance of falling leaves

Autumn is such a fantastic season. The youthful, strident colours of summer fade and turn, revealing a richer, deeper beauty beneath. A slow dance of falling leaves that remind us of our own mortality.

We walk in silence, taking in the scents and sights all around us. It's quiet here. A cool, grey Autumn morning.
