a level playing field

Dear Sheddists,

a few weeks ago Ben and I meet a lady and her autistic son at Aston Villa.  She tells us about her efforts to promote 'A Level Playing Field', a charity dedicated to disabled sports fans.

We stand proudly beside her on the side-lines earlier this afternoon as young representatives of the charity parade its flag around Villa Park.

It's a poignant reminder of the very first time I took Ben to Villa Park as an eight year old to watch the plucky boys in claret and blue defeat the might of Crystal Palace.  He's thirty one now and we still follow the Villa through thick and thin. It's a very special place for us, a place where Ben is accepted lovingly by the season ticket holders around us as just another Villa fan - a place where his learning disability is no bar to being part of the Villa family.

Let the pictures tell his story.

Yours as ever,

Walk Tall

 Dear Sheddists,

our latest outing to Villa Park sees us squander yet another lead late in the second half, this time against Nottingham Forest.  Yes, we dominated play for virtually the entire match, and yet we came away with but a solitary point.

For all the attacking flair shown by the plucky boys in claret and blue, there was one star who shone out on the pitch. A young man with a prosthetic leg who gamely led out the mascots with a huge smile on his face.

Good on you!

Yours as ever,
