We married young - I was 21, she was 23. We didn't have money for a fancy honeymoon. One night at the hotel where the wedding reception was held (part of the package deal) and one night in Rothbury, about twenty five miles away from our new matrimonial home.
It didn't bother us. All we wanted was to be alone together. We spent our first day as a married couple visiting Cragside Hall, home of the famous north-eastern engineer, Lord Armstrong.
And it is to Cragside Hall we return today, our 40th wedding anniversary now in clear sight.
