journey no. 19 - early evening walk

Forced past the point of stopping we were marched to the derelict building, stripped and shot in the early evening sun as we watched orange glow fire-links sparking in the corn fields beyond.

The path went on, desolate in shadow to the bubbling fly-hovered puddles, cratered and rank. They ran dark streams just beneath the surface, pierced in places by the settled corpses of here-today gone-tomorrow insect life and over-head the strange gridded form of buzzing electrofication fixed us to the place where once more we were shot.

We were marched still further below the darkling green canopy, trees up-rooted and re-forming before our very eyes. We should not have ignored the warning signs as yet again we were shot. This was the place of no return. And we waved goodbye …
